For all of those who have posted wrt kitchen countertops and remodeling...

Fine Homebuilding magazine has tons of ideas. Some of the more 'out-there' ideas are wrt cement countertops, which are cheap to build as long as the underlying structure has been built to support the weight.

Check out the website. The magazine holds very detailed instructions from framing to nailing wainscoting. Ladies... or gents... Don't be surprised if you wake up and your significant other is pouring the foundation to your new 8 bay garage.

What's a wrt?
BTW, it takes a meticulous, childless chef to maintain a cement countertop. Sealers do not work as advertised.

Willie is correct, some countertops, concrete being one, are prone to staining. I know that solid surfaces such as Corian, concrete, and Finnish soapstone can be lightly sanded to remove stains and marks as long as they haven't penetrated too deeply. But common sense still dictates using a cutting board and cleaning up that grape jelly pronto.
