Home Improvement or Building Contractors to stay away from.

Im about to do a major project at my home, Ive gotten 4 estimates back for the work to be done, there is about a $27,000 difference from the lowest to the highest estimate. Im throwing the highest one out, the 2 lowest ones there is about a $3,500 difference. I really like the higher of the 2 and I have seen his work and got great referal from a neighbor who had him do work last year.
The lowest bidder I know nothing about, just got him from the phonebook and he wasnt even in the phonebook in 2004/2005.
I dont really want to throw his name out here on the forums, but would appreicate if anyone has a bad experience with a contractor (St Mary's perferably) to PM me with any info. Thanks

Something to keep in mind... sometimes the builder who can offer the lower bid can do so because he plans to do most of the work himself and will keep any additional helpers/subcontractors to a bare minimum. This would most likely have an affect on the length of time it will take him to complete the project... could very well add weeks or months over the time it would take a higher bidder that has budget planned in for a larger crew.

Well I choose my contractor for the garage and other improvements, and used the one that my neighbor had do his. The project is well on its way and I couldn't be happier, everything has been fantastic so far. I would highly reccomend him to anyone that is planning a home improvement.
The company is Neitzke Home Improvement out of Mechcanicsville. :yay: :yay:

I reccomend Blazers especially Tommy. Stay away from Pulliams. Just my opinion. These are the only two that I am familiar with. Tommy does great work and completes it on time. The other one never meets deadlines. And underestimates everything to get your attention and then things change. Good luck!!!

Congrats on getting everything underway! I am still in the planning stages, having the architect draw up my addition. Let me know how it works out for you!
