Just what we needed...a lack of leadership even at the highest level...

"Former New York City police commissioner Bernard B. Kerik withdrew as President Bush's nominee for secretary of homeland security last night, saying he had not paid taxes for a domestic worker who may have been an illegal immigrant."

Bush appointed him as a favor to Guiliani as far as I can tell. He seemed like a good enough choice, but maybe they should have checked out his background BEFORE appointing him?

I agree. I thought that about Zoe Baird and Lani Guinere back in the day. Sure, you'd have had the taint of dishonesty (in the Clinton Administration, if you can believe that :rolleyes:) but I don't think the American public would have keened in outrage over some unpaid taxes for an immigrant nanny. There had to have been something else, just like there's something else with Kerik.
