Homeless in Charlotte Hall

Heard rumors of a homeless camp somewhere behind the Charlotte Hall Food Lion. Friend says one made snide comments to her when she wouldn't give him money when she was leaving the store. She didn't feel very safe because the guy was rude to her. Also heard they are crossing 235 right in front of traffic. Seems as if they are trying to be hit on purpose, probably to get some money if you hit them. Anyone else have any encounters? I see Food Lion losing business if people don't feel safe going to their store without being harassed by people asking for money.

At one point, I was advised Lexington Park had 1300 homeless people. Let me say again... That's One thousand, three hundred people. And it likely grew from there. The reason I believe Lexington Park had such a high amount are the offices that cater to the homeless in this area. The police know where most of the homeless are located. As long as they don't break any "major" laws, they generally seem to leave them alone.

Homelessness is a horrible thing. In general, people care more about their "animals" than their fellow "human beings". Our health care in our Country is either non existent or out of control for affordability for many people. Mental health coverage is pretty much no where. Congress is unlikely to get its act together when it comes to agreeing to a health care package. One party is as bad as the other. Both the Democrats and the Republicans are to blame. Did anyone really think Obamacare would work? Now look at it. It is pretty much done. Stick a fork in it. Health care has a massive amount of fraud, waste and abuse. I am surprised the government doesn't decide to pursue the waste. This makes me believe our own government is joined at the hip with the medical AND pharmaceutical companies. When there are drugs approved by the FDA to go on the market whereas one of the side effects could be "death", it doesn't take a genius to believe money had to exchange hands somewhere. And then the cycle repeats itself. And yes, some of our homeless are vets. Homelessness for anyone, to include our vets should never happen.

I wonder if we need a poll here, how to "deal" with the problem?
A. shot them, like you would rats at the town dump.
B. poison the food supply to chase them away.

Am I missing any viable options you think the community might get behind?

Like they did with the vultures. Shop down all of the trees the vultures roosted in and see if they go away. Nope, vultures are still there. Vultures win. That is at least for now. Government is now thinking about killing them one by one, if they haven't already. The vultures serve a purpose. Where would the homeless people go if the woods they live in are gone? "The STS bus seems to take them any where they want to go". Therefore, they could be in your neighborhood one day.

Can you explain to me why its the taxpayers responsibility to take care of these homeless people?
And as a combat veteran why is a homeless Veteran any different than anybody else?
Why is someone entitled to free housing through no fault of the Armed Services?

I read again what I wrote. No where did I say that the taxpayer should pay for homelessness. Yes, being homeless is horrible. Yes, people do care more about their animals than the homeless. For example, most people would pay to fix up their sick dog or cat before you would pay to help a homeless person. It is simply a matter of fact, whether you like or not and whether the truth hurts or not. You know its true. So do I.

I do believe the majority of those that are homeless have some degree of a mental illness, or a combination several issues. As for vets, the military used to have a better program to support their vets. Just look at the state of the Vet Affairs program today. In fact, this is a major issue that President Trump is looking in to.

I don't know about your dogs, But every dog that has been in my Grandfathers, my Fathers and my home has earned it own keep not just by being a home alarm system but come upland bird along with duck and goose season they definitely work for shelter and good meals.
My home is not a place for free room and board, and that goes for my kid and the dog.
Some folks may need to be taken care of, but the rest of the lazy homeless, drug addict, subsidized pos i could care less about.
I spend some time with a few VN vets out here and i will say none of them complain about extended wait times at the Marion VA Hospital.
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, i have just not seen it at the three VA Hospitals that i have been to many times with family members and friends.

Why yes, you're right, I do care more about my dog than I do homeless people that i have no connection to. I also care for my family more than homeless people. You know what....THATS MY RIGHT!!! Not saying all homeless people are that way because of choices they have made, but I think the majority are. There are government programs out the ying yang to help these people. They may have family that have tried to help, only to see them repeat the bad choices. You may feel guilty about this, I do not. If you dont mind my asking....what have you done to help??

Pretty sure I saw the guy making snide comments. He is a heavy set guy that is usually in the Target/Giant parking lot. He says he lives in the woods behind Target and seems to like targeting women with children. There had been a lot of talk about him on Facebook lately so maybe that is what pushed him further out of his normal area. He got off the STS bus and immediately started asking for money to get home.

How many homeless have you invited to stay with you until they get back on their feet? How many homeless do you have at your dinner table once a week?

Health care is affordable if you go when needed and not when you have a runny nose and "don't feel good". The government should not be in the healthcare business. This a capitalistic democracy, not socialism or communism. If you want a product or service and can afford it, you get it.
