Honda 400 ex steering

i have a stupid question I have a honda 400 ex 2000, you know were the steering steam ends down low and there is a thing there that stops the handle bars from going to far left and right. when I turn the bars I hear a clicking noise and notice the stem lifting from the socket down there, what do I need to fix that? Is it called a steering stem bearing?

Simple hand tools and whatever bearing went bad. Try this;

Dillon Brothers Honda Kawasaki Suzuki Yamaha | Honda OEM Parts | Kawasaki OEM Parts | Suzuki OEM Parts | Yamaha OEM Parts

(I found this Google'ing "ATV Parts Fische")

Under "OEM Part Diagrams Look Up by Model Fit" Select Honda | Select "ATV" | Select "TRX400EX A (00) ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE (ATV)....

A new window will appear - go to the pull down box next to "Change Assembly" and select "Steering Shaft" - this will show the steering shaft with all associated bearings and seals.

Honestly, you are going to have to remove the handle bars, front shroud (plastic) and remove the steering shaft and see what bearing/seal is shot. It should be pretty straight forward.

An EXCELLENT resource (forums) for ATV's is ATV Frontier - ATV Forums, News, Reviews, Chat, Maps, Classifieds and More › News - they are a great board and the people are really friendly. You can get a ton of advice from there as well. :yay: Go join, go to the Honda area and ask your question there as well.

Would THIS face lie?
You are going to most likely need a steering stem bearing...It is located at the bottom of the steering stem...Stand the bike up on it's tail...(Put it in gear and lift the front of the bike to get it to stand up)...You should be able to get to it from the bottom...Take the cotter key out and nut off and go from there...You will probably need part number 96150-62033-10...It is a bearing...#12 on diagram...Hope this helps..

I have never tore into one, but your explanation sounds better than mine. :lol: I know with my Sportsman 600 it would be major surgery. :lmao:
