Hope she didn't do your taxes...

or an audit may be headed your way...:twitch:

Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. and Comptroller William Donald Schaefer jointly announced today the filing of criminal charges against Joanne Adams, a Lexington Park tax return preparer, for preparing scores of false State income tax returns. Adams, 58, is charged in a two count Criminal Information with preparing false returns for 15 clients between 2002 and 2004, as well as for three individuals posing as taxpayers but who were, unbeknownst to Adams, working undercover for the Comptroller’s Office.

I'm in the market for a new tax preparer. I just spoke to one that was recommended to me. IF I walk into her office with all my papers in order and all my ducks in a row, she'd charge me $425 :twitch:

That seems really high. I thought the only thing that would complicate the taxes was your daycare business - which really isn't that difficult. You're right to shop around.

I go to Diane Little at Bookkeeping by Blanche off Chancelor's Run Road. It takes about a month to get them back b/c I go later in the season but it only costs me $85 for a double income family and a small personal business.

The rules for day care are completely different from any other self employed business out there. It's not extremely complicated, but you've got to know your stuff. I knew more about it then the chickie that did our taxes before. I was telling her stuff and she didn't believe me AND both times we went to her, she had to consult with someone else on certain issues. I've got a couple of calls out to people recommended by child care providers who've been in the business for 20+ years, but I'm not paying no $400. I'll do it myself first.

Diane Little was one of the names someone gave me, but I didn't call her, yet. The other 3 I did call were all raves about their preparers. The one who mentioned Diane Little just said "this is who I use" So I figured I'd go with the rave reviews first.
