I read that this morning, that is horrible, those things do some damage. Can't even imagine the pain they cause. I swear the thing looks like it's wearing a helmet. Didn't see it in your article, but CNN has pics of what the sting looks like.

Those are relatives of the European Hornet or the slang term horse hornets, which we have in Maryland. Most people are first introduced to these when they are attracted to their porch light at night.
