I ran a list of newly licensed stables and saw that Foxfyre Farm just received their license in July 2011. How is this horse farm?.....pros and/or cons. PM me with your thoughts.

I would think it would be beneficial to know what kind of riding you do (western, english, dressage, xcountry, etc.); do you want to take lessons; do you want them stall kept; what part of St. Mary's will you be located in? There are many facilities in the county so I think the answers to these questions will help with the right "fit".

Is Flat Iron doing only self-care now? That's what I've heard. Who's running it?

. . . and in post 10 it says the list is not current, which is in fact true because my friend tried calling the number for Flat Iron Farm.

Best to stop by the farm and chat. they are in transition with a new barn manager coming in. You will be able to find out the qualifications and references you are seeking.

I posted the list that the EQUIREY and MHIB had available.

It is the individual businesses responsibility to keep their information current.

For the record, I don't board! :howdy: But If I did, licensed would definatly matter.

Perhaps you should contact those publications and remove your listing to keep the info current.

Thanks! I did. Nobody seems to ever be around. I will keep trying.

I wanted to let everyone know that I did some research about a week ago and some of the farms that are listed above I enquired with the Maryland Horse Industry Board and a farm I was interested in was not licensed, eventhough the Equiry said they were. Licensing should matter to everyone when it comes to the best interests of someone's horses.

Ask yourself....."Would I let a child care company watch my precious children if they aren't licensed?" These horses are our precious children too.

Just a thought.

The state is in the process of filling the position of State Stable Inspector after the retirement of the previous Inspector. It will take time for stables to get their licenses.

Job Opening: State Stable Inspector

I have my horses at my house but, personally? If I knew someone did a good job I could care less if they were licensed.

And, reading about the job and it's salary? Not impressed. The position will pay between $23,500 and $36,000, depending upon experience, plus the usual cornucopia of government benefits. Requirements: high school education (um, it doesn't even say diploma) and "one year of experience either in assisting veterinarians in the care and management of animals, in animal disease control, in the care or management of livestock, or in inspecting veterinary hospitals, riding stables, or livestock dealers."

So, I qualified for that job when I was 17. Cool.

*Not sure why I'm grumpy tonight. Usually I would've just ignored that post as it's not a big deal. So, do feel free to ignore me. I'm not trying to start a fight. I'm just kvetching.
