Nice pictures. Where was this show? Looks like a very nice place. Did you take any pictures at the Horse Show at the fair?

Methodically disorganized
It was hard because it was so bright out. Out of like almost 200 picture i only got a few good ones.
The brightness was a blessing; better than being overcast.

In bright conditions, you should have your ISO set to 100.

More importantly, since you were shooting action, you should have set your shutter to at least 1/250 and preferably 1/800 or faster to freeze motion. (To do that, you need to be in M(anual) or Tv (time priority) or the "Sports" scene mode... definitely NOT Auto, because that will screw you every time.)

Your focus mode should be AI Servo (as I believe you have said you shoot with Canon; if it's Nikon, it's called Continuous Focus) so that your lens will stay locked on the subject as it moves.

Lastly, you should be shooting RAW images. That will allow you to later correct exposure overages/underages, among other things.

Shooting action can be tough because all the excitement can be overwhelming, and you'll feel like you need to capture everything. Start by learning/understanding the particular settings you need to input (as above). Then work on tracking one specific subject at a time. The camera can create great exposures, but only you can create great compositions, so your job is to successfully predict where your subject will move next and hit that spot. Consistently. Accomplish that a few hundred - or thousand - times and you'll be good to go.

Good luck. :yay:

Photo- I don't have a site yet. I am working on that.

Hyp05- I was shooting in manual, raw, and continous. I think my iso was on 100 or 200. The sun was in front of me instead of behind or above me. Which i know is a no no. For my first shoot. I did ok. Practice Practice.

Yep. When you first walk through the fence , you go straight and we sat right there. I had 2 redhead kids with me. It was a great event.

We were right infront of the grandstands and just to the left of the left of the natural combination at the fence line. It was great getting so close to the action. :dye:

The Capital Challenge Horse Show The Capital Challenge Horse Show - News & Press starts this Saturday and is held in Upper Marlboro at the PG Eq. Center. That would be another great place to hown your picture skills. :yahoo:
