Hi! I just moved to Mechanicsville and am looking for a place close to home to take riding lessons and possibly lease a horse.
I realize there is a large horse community in So. Maryland so maybe you can refer me to a nice place.

Check the boarding facilities thread. PCF had a lot of positive response, I think they're in your area.

I know of a place around Hughsville. Not to sure if that is too far or not. I also know of someone with a horse for lease if interested.
