Video from WTTG shows two women being escorted separately from the store. One was wearing a store smock.
A gunmen is believed to still be inside the store at 15th and L Streets.
The situation has traffic gridlocked near 15th Street.
WTOP Traffic reports 15th, L and K Streets are closed.
K Street is closed in each direction between 15th and Vermont Avenue.
L Street is shut down between 16th Street and Vermont Avenue.
15th Street is closed between K Street and M Street.
M street is open. Traffic is going one way westbound after Thomas Circle toward New Hampshire Avenue.
The situation has been going on since just before 8 a.m. Tuesday when police received a call about an attempted robbery at the Rite Aid in the 1,000 block of 15th Street, between K and L Streets.
WTOP's Brennan Haselton reports from the scene that someone inside the store with a cell phone was able to call police. There are no reports of anyone being injured.
