I know nothing
there is no way in hell I will ever stop eating hotdogs.....

The problem is the Sodium nitrite.

"Sodium nitrite is used to fix the colors in preserved fish and meats. It is also important (along with sodium chloride) in controlling the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which causes botulism. Lunch meats, hams, sausages, hot dogs and bacon are usually preserved this way.

In medicines, it is a vasodilator, intestinal relaxant, bronchodilator, and an antidote to cyanide poisoning, and hydrogen sulfide poisoning.

Sodium nitrite is produced in the human body by the action of saliva on sodium nitrate, and is important in controlling bacteria in the stomach, to prevent gastroenteritis. The body produces more sodium nitrite than is consumed in food.

Sodium nitrite can react with proteins in the stomach or during cooking (especially in high heat, such as frying bacon) to form carcinogenic N-nitrosamines. To prevent this, ascorbic acid or erythorbic acid are now added to the cured meat.

During the curing process, some of the nitrites are converted to nitric oxide. This combines with the myoglobin proteins in the muscle of the meat to form the deep red nitric oxide myoglobin, which turns bright pink during the smoking process. This is why ham is pink.

Nitrites prevent foods from getting rancid. Besides the taste issues, nitrites prevent the formation of toxic maldonadehyde, which is formed as foods get rancid. "

I eat lots of ham, sausage and bacon. If I die then at least I will die happy and full. You can save the wheat grass and twig's for the cows.

Southern Maryland is one of the places where cancer is most Prevalent in the United States. You would think that knowing that we would have a special cancer study group here in Charles and St. Marys county. What has Steny got to say about that--anyway, not to get off subject.

I remember when it was eggs, Then it was overcooked Hamburger, the Sun, Cigarettes, Red meat , Asbestos, Xrays, radiation, estrogen, breathing ,and now Hot Dogs.

Hot Dogs is the cause of the day, tommorrow they may say its something else. maybe here in St. Mary's county its the water, who knows?

I havent the time nor the energy to worry about the causes of cancer , I just know I went to a funeral today for a lovely lady who just died from it and she wasnt living off hot dogs, didnt smoke ,had not been around asbestos, nor taken estrogen ,but she died from female cervical cancer and the world is less without her.

Eating processed meats raises stomach cancer risk

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Eating more processed meats such as bacon, sausage and smoked ham (including hot dogs!) increases the risk of stomach cancer, Swedish scientists said on Wednesday.

A review of 15 studies showed the risk of developing stomach cancer rose by 15 to 38 percent if consumption of processed meats increased by 30 grams (1 ounce) per day, the Karolinska Institute said in a statement.

Stomach cancer accounts for nearly one tenth of total deaths from cancer, the institute said.

Thank goodness I don't eat many of those foods. :ohwell:
