Hot Spots on GSD

Brush..brush..brush...probably blowing out his/her coat now. They get itchy and try to get the dead hair out and before you know it, they have a large, ugly boo-boo.

Trim the area where the spot is and keep it covered with Gold Bond Medicated Powder. It should clear it up.

Took her to the vet yesterday and he shaved the area. He said to apply diluted iodine 3X a day, Benadryl 2X a day, plus gave her an antibiotic. It's a pretty big area, about 3"x6". The Benadryl seems to be comforting the itching, so she doesn't seem to be in agony any longer. That said, should I still apply Gold Bond on top of all that?

It's up to you...either idodine or the Gold Bond. I wouldn't do both but if it was my doggie, I'd used the Gold Bond. I don't have the hot spot issue now but I had shepherds for years and also a Golden Retriever..gave up on the vet bills and just kept a close eye and used Gold Bond whenever I thought a spot was starting.
