I noticed Monday that the dog has a hot spot about the size of a dime or a little bigger it it is dark red and the hair is missing in this circle, it's located behind her right elbow ... my parents dog used to have this years ago and they called it a hot spot.... what causes this -- what are the treatments? :frown:

fleas? shedding.. Any number of things cause a dog to itch and then they work at a particular spot and a hot spot develops. Generally, you can use Gold Bond Medicated Power and it will dry it out and clear it up in no time. Of course, the dog will continue to lick the spot but just keep putting powder on it.

will it make her sick  She has frontline on her so I don't know about fleas -- as for shedding -- she's always shedding. :ohwell: Should I put the powerder own and then use medical tape that only sticks to itself around the area after dressing it  I remember long ago when my parents dog had it -- they said it was stress that caused it. :frown:

No, it won't make her sick. My Golden used to get them right at the beginning of the summer if I wasn't diligent about brushing out his shedding coat. Used to take him to the vet, get meds, shots of cortisone, you name it. Got tired of that so I took to the internet. Found the Gold Bond remedy and used it for years. Worked great. But I knew what he had. Are you sure the her boo-boo isn't something else?

Hot spots are very, very red and wet, almost oozing. Make sure it's not ringworm. :yikes:

She won't let me look at it... it looks like a hotspot from my experience...it's dark red and festering... :frown: She just developed it on Monday as far as I know of... not trying to be funny but if you look at pic two, where the poor baby looks like she's signing... Santa's right arm is right on her boo-boo. Maybe I and others in line misterpreted her smile for her showing teeth as in getting ready to bite :frown:
