We seem to have more than our fair share of house fires here. Is it just me that seems to think this? Anyone venture to guess why?
Depends on the cause. We seem to have more than our fair share of house fires here. Is it just me that seems to think this? Anyone venture to guess why?

And what is this fair share, you got a swag? Since 1980 the US has experienced about a 50% reduction in annual home fires,We seem to have more than our fair share of house fires here.
Seems like a lot more than where I grew up. Morons with fireworks and electrical fires just seem a lot more common in SOMD.And what is this fair share, you got a swag? Since 1980 the US has experienced about a 50% reduction in annual home fires,
The story that won't die...Every place has it odd quirks. I don't know about house fire statistics for SOMD vs the rest of the country but I do know we lead in the episiotomies by reciprocating saw category.
I am partly to blame but is is just so bizarre that every time something like the OP comes up it is the first thing in my head. I'll try to control it.The story that won't die...
You should right a book, "101 Uses for a Reciprocating Saw - Oops, make that 102"I am partly to blame but is is just so bizarre that every time something like the OP comes up it is the first thing in my head. I'll try to control it.
Fireplaces in use that don't get cleaned often enough, attempts to make the place 'homey' by lighting candles and not paying attention, crackpot unemployed men playing scientist in the garage.....
Space heaters are probably up there on causes. That and dirty chimneys, like Sneakers said.
I will be calling you.
Annual chimney inspections and or cleanings as recommended by NFPA 211. When you have a chimney fire, it can spread to the house depending on many situations: construction of the chimney, where the chimney is located on the house, and the conditions of the fire, etc
Yep....I can vouch for that.
