How Are Things In SO. MD

I moved to Waldorf in 1976 from PG County. I loved it there, had a great family and raised two wonderful sons. Had I great life there and then for reasons I won't get into my sons and I moved to florida in 2003, four years after I retired. So how are things in Waldord and S. Md? My sons lived in Mechanicsville. Florida is not what people make it out to be. I would move back tomorrow if I could but it's not in the cards right now. Just wondering how things have changed in four years. I lived in Meadowbrook right behind Mac Middleton. Is he still doing his thing in the Senate? Well I just wanted to say hello to all, I miss it alot. Take care.

Well if you enjoy crime, section 8 housing and too many people, you'll love it.

Hi Retcop :howdy:

Charles is having crime issues, turning into PG practically. But Calvert and St. Mary's are still nice places to live :yay: Lots of build-up - houses, stores, etc. You wouldn't recognize it.

WOW, I guess I miss it but sounds like I don't want to move back. I guess I miss the old Waldorf in 1976 thru the late 80's. It was a nice old farming town with very little crime, no Mall, no apartments, no low income housing, no, oops I better stop there. I have heard the same thing from some old neighbors and friends so I'll try to change my thoughts about moving back, I don't think I would be happy there again. Boy it's a real shame how a nice town can go to h*ll. Thanks for your replies.

I lived in PG (Upper Marlboro), and Waldorf back in the early 90s, but when I came back in 2000 I moved to Calvert and love it here. Good luck in your move, RETCOP.

The late 70's was the beginning of the end. I remember riding around the shopping center picking up chicks. Now you ride around ducking bullets.

Calvert and St. Mary's still nice

Calvert is very nice. That's my county. Im sure St. Mary's is nice too. I'm a little concerned that Prince Frederick will eventually become another Waldorf. Hopefully, someone will see this before it's too late and stop the "growth."

Be careful for what you wish, he may just come along and make you regret it.

As for the original topic, yes, it's bad. It's not a total crime-ridden sewer just yet, but it has gone downhill greatly in just a few short years. And I think a lot of people move here expecting good things, with "the country" so near as well as the city. A few years ago I met a teacher and his wife who was promised a solid position in a local school, so they moved here excitedly... sight unseen. They were not here long before they regretted the commitment.

St. Mary's is not blind to such problems, as Lex Park has grown rapidly in its own right. But that's only a problem if you plan to still be in the area in another few years...
