How do you get a doctor in Saint Mary's County?

You know like one that's going to be your doctor and you can do things like make appointments with them for medical concerns?

I haven't been to the doctors in well over ten years. I got a phone call from Medicare to remind me that I have to get a physical every year, only...well I had one phone call several years ago where they asked me a bunch of questions like are you depressed and have you had the urge to kill yourself or anyone else lately. That was my Medicare physical apparently. I would really like a doctor that I could physically see but it seems like every time I'm assigned one they move on to greener pastures before I actually can get an appointment.

Medstar called me three months ago out of the blue and said my doctor had quit and they would call me back with several names for a doctor. So I called Medstar and they give me menu option buttons to push but when I press one, the recording continues w/o connecting, press two, same thing.

Is there a secret formula to getting a doctor in this area? Anyone had to do that recently?

The CVS here has a wellness center for routine physicals and such. I used them for my health insurance physical.

Also try an urgent care.

Managed to get an appointment with Urgent Care - name is misleading - I thought they were just for emergency type stuff. July - that was their first opening. Crazy.

Thanks for the info.

Are you serious? You can't get into *urgent care* until July???

That's crazy.

I’ve had the same doctor that almost every one of my families had since the 70s.

It’s gonna be a pain, when he retires shortly, to find a good replacement.

For your consideration ...

There are no more private doctors anymore. The last real doctor in St. Mary's County was Dr. Guyther. And he passed in 2013 at 93. Today all we have are corporate doctors feasting at the teet of corporate insurances and government programs like medicare and medicaid.

It's just best to take care of one's self the best one can and not rely on allopathic medicine.

And what happens if you don't?

This is the intended slippery slope to find something wrong with you so doctors can bill the system for more money.

Or it's a savings thing, find something wrong with you and fix it before it becomes worse and more expensive.

Sounds like they need to do something to attract more doctors.
Unfortunately, I'd say those days are long. Who wants to do all the hard work it takes to become a doctor, only to be subjected to a conveyor belt of patients every day?

They've got something, every few years a new batch of Shah's gets imported from india. I'm not complaining about this the 4 Shahs I see have been great so far.
I've had a few decent one that specialize but the older I get, the worse my hearing gets and I simply CANNOT understand what they're saying. It's one thing when it's me and I don't get their instructions, but when it's my son and they're discussing seizures and the ton of medication he's taking...really frustrating. And I feel so rude when I'm staring at them blankly and asking them to repeat.

Joey had a neurologist that was Chinese I believe. I told his receptionist from square one that I had hearing issues and wondered if one of his assistants could be in the room with us to help me out. She said you won't have any problems. He was very hard to understand BUT he made me repeat what I thought his instructions were and we worked it out that way. He was a really good guy which is probably why he left.

I feel so bad about not being able to understand when they can obviously understand me. Sometimes the Indian, I assume they're Indian, doctors are just downright exasperated. I really don't like going to them.

I see a group of young nurse practitioners working under Jamie Boyd, on Miss Bessie Drive behind the hospital. Really like all of them a lot. And they have an on site lab. My primary is a young local girl. I'm very happy there.

Yeah, I don't want a doctor I can't communicate with. That seems absurd.

Maybe some stray resident surgeon will run into a fence in Leonardtown on his way to Hollywood California and they can shanghai him into working the county for a few months until his foreign car is repaired.
