In July 2000, a 13-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman were attacked by sharks within two hours of each other while swimming off New Smyrna Beach (search). The girl lost part of her leg. The woman had a bite in her upper thigh.
Now the parents of the 13-year-old, Amber Benningfield, are suing Volusia County saying the girl should have been warned after the first attack on the 19-year-old.
