How Gullible

We've talked about this before, so I know a number of us already know the answer before getting to the bottom. Still, make ya think....

------------------------------------------------------
A freshman at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the
Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair on January 26.

In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding
strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen
monoxide." And for plenty of good reasons, since it can:

1. cause excessive sweating and vomiting
2. it is a major component in acid rain
3. it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
4. accidental inhalation can kill you
5. it contributes to erosion
6. it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
7. it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

He asked 150 people if they supported a ban of the chemical.

One hundred forty-three said yes
Six were undecided
Only one knew that the chemical was...

Water!

The title of his prize winning project was,

"How Gullible Are We?"

He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become to the
alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of
everything in our environment.

The conclusion is obvious.

Having Fun!
I looked all over that site. Does it use the word "water" anywhere???

:lmao:

I don't think so, at least I couldn't find it, either. I was given the site as a teaching resource a while ago. We were told at the time that it was developed as a resource to teach information literacy. I can't verify that, though as I never bothered to track that piece of information down. I just use the site because it's so wonderful to make my point with and that's the point that you really need to research everything you find on the internet as it is not always what it seems! :lmao: I usually end up in front of the chalkboard breaking down the syllables of dihydrogen monoxide and then writing the chemical formula on the board before they "get it". Obviously, I have to do it with the older groups.
