If I carry my own insurance, why would anyone else have to pay for a traumatic brain injury?

Chance are that your insurance has a maximum cap which could easily be met in a short time. These injuries need extensive round-the-clock care for years and years.

Lets say I f up while driving (happens to everyone now and again) and I end up tapping the bike and you fall off. You hit your head and end up a retard due to the injuries. Yet, had you been wearing head protection, the outcome would have been me ending up the retard after you got up and yanked me out the window and whooped me.

your payout should not include coverage for the head injury that you could have prevented.

Helmets?

Actually most of the Kool Guys riding their souped up Cruiser Bikes seem to be utilizing the infamous pea-nut shell helmets, which provide absolutely no protection. Law enforcement seems to turn a blind eye to this violation, so how valid is the helmet law anyway? :1bdz:

Sorry, your F up, you get to pay. (it's called being responsible for your actions)

Yeah, but if was driving a truck he may not have been hurt at all. How far do you want to take this? We could require all people to drive the same size and type of vehicle.

Motorcyclist dies after hitting head on pavement during anti-helmet protest. I have split feelings on these laws: wearing a helmet is smart, but should the state dictate it. BTW, I rode many years ago, but now prefer to have steel around me.
I say: Way to help the cause dude! I started riding in 1975 and helmet laws were just changing in Md. When I rode to Florida with some friends years ago, we took our helmets off a lot but there were some roads that we wore them regardless of the laws. Why? WE HAD BRAINS & COMMON SENSE!

I say it should be up to the driver but with certain conditions, like:
The driver should be over 25 or have 10 or more years riding experience (check the date they got their "M" classification) and they should have no DWI's in the last 10 years.

The problem is, we have too many laws!! Let the people do their thing and let the chips fall where they may! Seat belt laws, restricted gun & fire works laws must go asap! This is why people live to become stupid. There are too many laws protected from everything and they never learn by their mistakes. Experience is the best teacher. :yahoo:

I knew a good cop in Charles County (Paul Morgan) who got killed a few years ago on Smallwood Dr by a woman who shouldn't have been driving. He was wearing a full faced helmet, was in the correct lane and wasn't speeding. She simply pulled out into the roadway and came over into his lane. He hit a 4X4 sign post and broke his neck.

I wear a "peanut shell" myself but I am soo aware of everything around me. I make it a point to avoid driving too close to cars. I've been riding for @ 36 years and never take anything on the road for granted or become "laxed" about riding just because I've been driving for that long...
