That's a pretty large house. The answers are going to depend on what kind of heat you have, etc...

Your electric bill will be based on the construction of your home (insulation) etc. We pay on average 325.00 350.00 on our electric bill monthly. But like Lauren said there are so many circumstances that can effect your bill.

Contact people in your neighborhood... Theyll have much better answers for ya.

I have a 7 year old, 3500 sqft home, and the electric bill averages about $90/month using a heat pump. More in the winter, and less in the summer. I also get beaten with sunlight all day long, which helps in the wintertime, and makes it warmer in the summer. (Blinds open in winter, closed in summer!) Trash is $25/mo.

I imagine you'd have similar expenses, plus the cost of gas, and if you're in a big neighborhood, your trash service could be as low as $12/month.

I live in Great Mills:

Electric: appox $80 per month in winter, $110 in summer (oil heat/central air)

Trash: $22 per month for pickup, free if you take it to the transfer station yourself (closest to Bay Ridge will be in Valley Lee off of Happyland Rd)

Water: $10.02 per month (county water/my own septic) - price will be higher being on county sewer

Don't have gas so I can't help you there.

You might want to tell what your Burch Oil bill, (or whoever you use for fuel oil) is in the winter time?

Skewed amount on the oil ($125 a year - Ridgell Oil)...I also have a woodstove and heat the entire house with it on the coldest days.

let's talk about gas

The gas bill will range depending on the economy (it's fuel). I will say this: I had an apartment a few years back that was 2 br, 2 ba, on the third floor and about 850 sq. feet. Now, you'd think that since I was surrounded by other apartments and heat rises, my heating costs would be kept pretty low. Well, thanks to the outrageous price of fuel at the time, my one-month gas bill was $250 just for gas! Since then, I've steered clear of homes that have gas heat for that reason. I've found electricity to be much more stable in price. What you could do is ask the company who services the home for gas now for a record of gas usage for the last year and the bills. If it's a rental, ask the landlord to provide one for your budgeting purposes.

But my guess is that if you are renting/buying a 3000 square foot home, $100 here or there wouldn't be of much concern to you. :ohwell: But I don't know.

About 3250 + or - a little. Electric - approx. 150, Oil heat - approx. 125, Water (if you have to depend on Metcom) - approx. 20.

Of course then there is phone, cable, trash etc. which vary with your choices and habits.

Yakky you were really screwed on Gas, I have lived in a 2br 2 ba 1000 sqft apt for three years now (ground floor) and my highest gas bill ever was $65 a month, then I found I had a whole bunch of drafts arround the doors and put some weather stripping in the crevices and my highest gas bill has been $55 since normal is $40 in a winter month and $8 in the summer months.

Heat pumps are ok unless it gets below 30 degrees then they cost more to run than a gas or oil furnace but arround here it hardly gets below 30. Much north or even west of here I sure wouldnt own a heat pump.

Electric heat is by far the most expensive choice.

Oh yea a programmable thermostat will save you some on the heating bill.

I know, trust me. I called the manager and told them that there had to be something wrong. I didn't have any drafts, so I was guessing the meter itself had problems. But they said it was the problem of the gas company, and the gas company said it was the apartment complex's fault. :ohwell: Not much I could do at that point other than watch them play ping-pong with their :bs: excuses.

Just curious were those apts arround here? Which ones?

I had a phone line problem and they did the finger pointing at each other for a while. When I told both I wasnt going to pay for no service it mysteriously got fixed.

no, it was in another state, but one with relatively reasonable cost of living, which was even more of a shock! Oh well, life goes on! :ohwell:
