How to discipline your toddler?

Sounds to me like both of you need birth control when you are drinking. By the way, who is watching the kids while you 2 are off to the Tiki?

I have kids, and I choose not to drink.
If you have kids, SOMEBODY chose to drink! :ohwell:

I RARELY have to discipline my kids. Why? Because they know better than to act like that. I have NEVER spanked my kids. I do swat their butts a single time about once every 6 months or so. Normally just THE LOOK is enough.

Ignore the tantrum when at home. Tell them to go to their room and sit on their bed and not to come back out until they can conduct themselves in the proper manner. When they do it while out and about, immediately leave whatever store you are in, take them to the car and make them sit in their seat until they get themselves under control, then return to the store and continue what you were doing. No treats or purchases for them that trip. Explain that you are putting that cereal they really like back on the shelf because they were acting like a litte heathen.

NEVER give in to their actions.
:yeahthat: Couldn't have said it better.

I don't do the treats thing either. I'm not about bribing my son to behave. When we shop we shop together. We also discuss nutrition while we are food shopping, I make it fun and a learning experience and he ends up asking for healthy snacks like fruit and veggies anyway
You're the hippie that f'ed up cookie monster, aren't ya?!

Phew! You're lucky. All 8 of my little independent bastards would have gotten into the cleaning supplies, burned down the house, or tried to nail the cat to a door jamb!!
Sounds like Princess.

I have a 3 year old boy and he is starting to get really rowdy. We do the naughty step which seems to be working some of the time. He has had a few tantrums that were really bad. Kicking and screaming. It is frustrating and i don't spank my kids as i was a child of abuse. I tried just hugging him and telling him i love him. I thought it would detract him from his tantrum and be like what is this women doing...lol! I just want to know how you guys handle it. I get embarrassed sometimes in public when he does act up.
Anyone notice that the mothers that were abused at a young age, their
kids have discipline problems now? Like mother like child.
You ever think it was discipline and not abuse. You just call it abuse
now to help yourself get the attention you use to get by acting like an
animal when you were younger.

I did that in the beginning and it had the opposite affect. Till this day if someone raises the hand up to fast i flinch. Just a reaction. That is why i don't even want to swat my child on the butt. It might work for other parents but not me.

I'm sorry but there is a "huge" difference between a spanking and child abuse. My father had a paddle with holes in it so that it didn't meet much resistance when he used it on my butt. The thing is, that wasn't child abuse... it was plain and simple "DISCIPLINE" because I had done something that I shouldn't have done. However, with all the people I hear complaining that they were abused as children, I'd guess a good 65-70% of young adults today would.

You don't want to spank your child and he's 3? Wait until he's 13 and tell's you to "F" off like so many teenagers do today. Talk about embarrassment? You haven't seen embarrassment yet.

SPARE THE ROD AND SPOIL THE CHILD

How do school teachers discipline kids? Daycare providers? How come they can all do it without hitting? Are they smarter than you?

My day care provider threatens my son...

She says "Do I need to call your father"....

He straightens right up.

School teachers discipline kids?? Your head must be buried in the sand. You can ask many a teacher and hear about them being spit on, yelled at, and physically being assaulted and they're disciplining kids??

Day Care providers disciplining kids? My daughter (24) started working at a day care center 4 weeks ago, and she's already been spit on, cursed at, kicked, and one tried to bite her.
