how to dye a logo (or other design) onto an area rug

I'd like to figure out a way to dye an area rug with a certain image for a kids room. The only product I've found online is Rit dyes, but I can find very little on how to actually dye carpet with it.

Has anyone done this before? Can it be done as you would painting an image on the wall, e.g., by taping off certain areas, waiting for it to dry, and then taping off the next area for a new color?

Use aerosol hairspray to draw the design, then set it on fire while it's still wet. When you stomp it out, you'll be left with the image you desire.

You're welcome. :huggy:

You should PM Pete. He's good at stuff like that.

I knew a lady that took acrylic hobby paint and painted flowers along her stairs. It looked nice. She told me that she just painted them on the carpet nothing else done. I know I have gotten a few door mats that had painted things on them and they have held up well.... :howdy:

My mom used to dye fabrics with Rit, but she put them in the washer...don't know what size rug you want to do.

Maybe you could experiment with a cheap rug...maybe you can try "painting" on the dye with a brush and see if it works.....don't know how much the colors will bleed together.

If you get desperate, Sharpie markers come in all different colors.

Looks pretty good. I didn't think a "paint" would work really well. I wonder if it ends up being uncomfortable for a child to play on. I might have to try it on a rug used for another purpose first.

Stop being difficult. :smack:
