How to start as foster home

Hello everyone! My family and I are wanting to look into becoming a foster home for cats/kittens. My daughter has wanted a cat of her own for so long, but we have not had one before. We thought this might be a good way to check out different types, give her a chance to show she is responsible enough to help take care of the cat, and make sure that this would work out for us in the long run. I know many of you participate as foster homes for various organizations. Are there any that are better to volunteer for than others? What is required to become a foster home? We do have a dog (a labradoodle -- we acquired her from someone on here that was getting rid of her as she was getting beat up by their older lab), but she is extremely gentle, just loves to play. Do you think this would be a problem? Any other advice for starting out with this? TIA!

I think its great that you want to foster. Maybe you should PM kk or unix to help point you in the right direction. It appears from the post below that if you offer to do something positive on the fourm, you have some nut that forgets to take their meds that will post crazy shiat to undermind your original post. Good Luck!

Really? A kitten is a long-term commitment and if it didn't work out for whatever reason, that would be pretty traumatic for my daughter, not to mention then having to find a new home for the cat. Considering we have not had cats at all before, we thought this would be a great way to try things out on a non-permanent basis, while helping out a local shelter at the same time.
