This one....I am having my daughter's 7th bday party which is a sleepover tomorrow night, I called last night to invite my brother and his family to "stop by" for cake and ice cream.....SOMEHOW they took that as please let your 2 year old spend the night?? OK....first of all I have 7 seven year olds and dont need a 2 year old, 2nd of all she is definately going to "cramp" my daughters style as she does not want to have to deal with a 2 year old.........any suggestions???

Uhh, why don't people just tell the truth in situations like these?

Tell him the truth. You have to much to do and with seven 7 year olds in the house your attention will need to be focused on them. So for the safety of the 2 year old ... perhaps another time would be best!

As someone who let her siblings walk all over her for years, my advice would be to speak up now. Say "no." They obviously want a babysitter for the evening. Set the tone now and not 20 years later.

Be about it
I'd tell them that stopping by for dessert is fine, but that you don't have the time to watch over a 2 year old, and already have several activities planned that are for older children. Just be blunt, direct, and honest. No bullsh*tting w/them. Some people need to be hit over the head, ya know.

Do you have the type of relationship with your brother where you can call him and just say...unfortunately, there’s been a misunderstanding and I just wasn’t expecting your daughter to spend the night, I’m sorry and we’ll make it up to her by having her stay over on another night.”

My biggest thing with doing that is that the way I found out about the "misunderstanding" is that my brothers wife told my kid that her kid was sooo excited about the sleepover and couldn't stop talking about spending the night....so now we have the kiddo's ffelings involved...I just don't know what to do....
