Kristina Howansky, assistant professor of psychology at St. Mary’s College, has been named the 2019 recipient of the Wilbert J. McKeachie Teaching Excellence Award from the Society for the Teaching of Psychology during the 40th anniversary of its annual Conference on Teaching, which took place in Denver, Colorado.



According to the society, each 2019 recipient was selected by a different three-member panel comprising of past winners. Award winners received a plaque and a check for $1,500. The reviewers were impressed by “the sheer breadth of [Howansky’s] teaching experiences and accomplishments, all of which were authentic, thoughtful, and driven by a passion for teaching and helping students become global citizens.”



Howansky received her Bachelor of Science degree as a double major in psychology and marine biology from Rollins College and her master’s degree and PhD in social psychology from Rutgers University.



Howansky has also received numerous teaching awards including the Social Area Teaching Award for Exceptional Teaching, the TA Professional Development Fund Award, and the Honors College Teaching Fellowship.
