WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Speaker Pelosi announced that a House select committee will be created to investigate the January 6th Capitol insurrection:

"The horrifying events of January 6 shook our nation and demand a full investigation on behalf of the American people. While I had preferred the establishment of a bipartisan commission through statute, disturbingly Republicans blocked that from happening because the former president to whom they are beholden does not want the truth to emerge. As a result, the House has no other choice but to create a select committee to conduct a full and thorough investigation and report its findings and recommendations. I hope Republicans will participate fully and in good faith and that the select committee’s Members will work together to provide a definitive accounting of that day and what led up to it, and make recommendations on necessary actions to prevent a future attack.

"Our democracy was attacked on January 6. It was an assault on the liberty of every single American, in which the dark forces of demagoguery and autocracy were unleashed in an effort to deny Americans' right to choose their own leaders through free and fair elections. We the people of this country owe it to ourselves, to our forebears, and to our descendants to understand what brought about that attack and take steps so that nothing like the January 6 insurrection is ever repeated. I still hope that there is a potential for Democrats and Republicans to come together and create a bipartisan commission, notwithstanding this new select committee."

They're trying to silence their political rivals. This should scare the crap out of patriots. Steny needs to be voted out. Surely the repubs can buy votes just as well as the dims*.

Stenosis brain's entire statement reads "we know the answer we want and we will form a team that will get it or we will never stop." It doesn't matter to them what the truth is (it wasn't an insurrection) they will not stop until they get their way. It is $hit like this that will lead to a true insurrection if they keep it up.

Are they honestly trying to make the case that they've done NO INVESTIGATIONS up until this point?

There are actually several - in fact, some of it is WORSE than you think - some people have had their lives upended just for having been in the crowd that day. One in particular was there, but was in his hotel room the time of the breach - and his life is ruined. Others are still incarcerated with no other charge whatsoever OTHER THAN being in the Capitol illegally (which heretofore was public building that anyone could enter).

What they are doing isn't investigating - what they are proposing is, how can the Democratic Party gain an advantage from this?

Democrats are going to use this as an excuse to vilify 75 million Trump Voters and Persecute said individuals on a massive scale like the purge of the military that is currently going on

.... oh you posted on line support for Trump ... you should be fired from your job.

It really does seem that they want to cause civil unrest. When the SHTF, they will be the first to be shot or captured and tried for treason.
