My youngest son almost killed himself on Saturday. My husband had one of the Hot Wheels on top of our armoire because he wanted to find out the color. He wants to paint his Barracuda the same color as the Hot Wheel. My youngest (4yrs old) saw the car and tried to get it by opening up one of the drawers and climbing up the armoire. It fell over on top of him and sent the TV flying across the room. Luckily, the armoire is close enough to the foot of our bed that it provided just enough space underneath it for my son not to get hurt.

I heard the crash and went flying into my room. I lifted the armoire up and told my son to get out from underneath it. His foot was stuck in the drawer and I could not help him as I was holding the armoire up. He managed to get his foot unstuck and get out of the way. I yelled at him and then hugged him while crying hysterically. I kept saying " I could have lost you. Do you know how sad I'd be if I lost you?" The rest of the day my son kept saying "I'm really sorry you almost lost me Mommy but you found me now."

This is the second close call we've had with him. The first was an undiagnosed hernia at birth and he turned blue at 10 days old because his intestines collapsed his lung. This kid has a guardian angel watching out for him for sure. I told my boss about it this morning and he said he heard on the news over the week-end about a kid climbing up an entertainment center and it falling on him, killing him. I thank God that my son was unhurt because I know it could have been alot worse.

My son was completely unfazed by it and once he was out, he asked me to look under the mess for his Hot Wheel.

:huggy: Never a dull moment.

When I got out of the hospital for a rare disease call Kawasaki Syndrome I had to learn to walk again, I was 3, I was so weak. Finally I was able to walk, I was able to climb. I decided to be very helpful, go up to a very busy road, get the mail and bring it to mom who was upstairs washing windows. I decided that it was time fore me to conquer my dad's Ham Radio Tower. It went all the way up past the second floor window where mom and nanny were washing the windows. Here I came climing up up up. "MOM, MOMMY, I GOT YOU THE MAIL!" I yelled. She didn't know where I was and when she looked out the window she said in the most paniced voice, "DON'T MOVE" and proceeded to yell for one of the guys that worked for my dad who happend to be outside of the shop. He climbed up and got me. I was right outside the window on the second floor.

Years later, turns out I love to jump off of things that a re really high.... Can't wait to go skydiving :yahoo:

Unfortunately, my youngest is fearless too. He will be the death of me from worry, no doubt.

Yikes! How scary for you - glad he is okay. My daughter was taken to the ER on Saturday. She's alright now, but had me scared to death!!!

Starting Over
Thank goodness your son is ok! When my son was about 2 or so, he had one of those Dum Dum lollipops that you get at the bank. Well it came of stick, got stuck in his throat and my ex, the first thing he did was stick his finger's down his throat to get it out. Well that just pushed it further down his throat. He started turning blue in the face and his tongue was turning purple, I grabbed ahold of him and done the heimlich maneuver and after a couple of those the lollipop shot out of him.

Now whenever I hear him cough, I reflect back on that day and run to him to make sure he is alright. He is 7 now. I have never been so scared before in my life. This is just 1 of the many things that have happened to him.

Kids you love them with all your heart, but boy can they scare the living sh!t out of you sometimes.

How scary! I'm not a regular Oprah watcher, but years ago I watched an episode about a young child who died because he climbed up a bookshelf or something like that. My boys were toddlers at the time, and we ended up bolting the bookshelves and dressers to the walls (stud). They actually make kits you can buy to secure furniture so that it doesn't fall over. We didn't use them, but they seemed easy enough to install.

I know that some will say this is paranoid and that if you watch your kids this shouldn't be neccessary, but things can happen in a split second. My boys are quick! We never had an incident, but I felt better having that peace of mind. I know we can't prevent every injury and accident, but with two toddlers running around this seemed like something worth doing.

My son ( 12yrs old ) fell off the "Ignite the Night" stage while it was being set up and had to get stitches in his lip. All I could think of was that song..."I wanna be a rock star"
I told him he was not allowed to be a rock star ever!!!!

:lmao: Too funny! My youngest is fearless...We have avoided stitches and casts (knocking loudly on wood) this far, but I know it's only a matter of time.

When my youngest son was twoish he climbed his dresser and you guessed it, over it went. I heard the crash and I came running only to find him screaming with his head pinned between the foot board on the bed and the dresser. I freaked!!! I got to him and picked that dresser up like it was nothing and he climbed out from between them. I also sat holding him and crying. (of course I checked him to make sure his head was ok.) It was one of those little cheap dressers so it wasn't very heavy.(Thank God) We bolted that bad boy to the wall that night! :faint:

Keep your kids away from those "bouncy balls" that are about 1-2" in diameter, also. Not my story to tell, but I know someone that recently lost a child due to the ball, the child's mouth, vomit, airway obstruction--you do the math. Since I heard about it, not a day goes by that I don't think about it, I can't imagine being the family. So glad yours is okay!

You are only the second person I've ever known to have Kawasaki Syndrome. My cousin had it when he was about 3. Do you still f/u every year with your echos?

Goodness.I am glad that he is ok! :huggy:It must have been a shock.
Accidents happen in seconds!. I am ashamed to say that we had a shelving unit that my husband brought downstairs to put in storage as we did not need it.My son was about 13 months.I always keep close to him as I am very protective but I was in the kitchen and could see into the livingroom.I saw him try and climb on it ;pull it down on top of him and it fell just on his airway.I ran and pulled it off him.He was fine but if I had not been there at the very instant it happened I dread to think what would have happened.
So I can feel for you.
Another scary incident was when he was about 5 months old.I was walking and he was in a carseat combi stroller.I was walking quite fast and the front wheel got caught in a pothole below the curb as I was about to cross the road.It all seemed to happen in slow motion. The stroller went up on the front two wheels.I could not believe it, the carseat came out(it should have been clicked in but the mechanism failed)went flying upside down and landed in the road.I imagined the worse but thank goodness when I picked up the carseat and turned it over my son was crying but unharmed. I think his lip was a tiny bit grazed as there was a tiny drop of blood.I was so shook up I cryed all the way home.I just could not believe he had not banged his head.Maybe it was the shape of the carseat .
So being a parent to little ones puts you on your guard.
I am so glad your little one is o.k now.

It's miraculous that our babies survive. When they are little, they are in danger of accidents. When they get older, they become rebellious daredevils!

We are destined to hold our breath and pray for a lifetime. :huggy:
