Revelation 16:1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”
2 The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.
3 The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.
4 The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5 Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say:
“You are just in these judgments, O Holy One,
you who are and who were;
6 for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets,
and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.”

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple: Since no one could enter the temple (Revelation 15:8), this loud voice from the temple must be God Himself, who personally initiates the horrific judgment of the bowls.
Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth: These bowls of judgment are the third woe described in Revelation 11:14. Because they are described as the wrath of God, they are chastisements (with the purpose of bringing repentance) as much as punishments (with the purpose of dispensing justice).
A foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast: Those who worshipped the beast and received his mark are now marked by God with loathsome sores.
The sea… became blood: Revelation 8:8-9 described a partial contamination of the sea. Here the contamination is made complete (every living creature in the sea died).
Blood as of a dead man: The sea doesn’t necessarily become blood, but as of a corpse’s blood. It will match the appearance and sickening character of the blood in a dead body.
The rivers and springs of water, and they became blood: This complete contamination is in contrast to the partial (one-third) pollution of fresh waters shown in Revelation 8:10-11.
They became blood: When these judgments come, the time must be very short until the return of Jesus. With ecological disaster such as this, the human race cannot survive long.
You are righteous… For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink: It is completely fitting that those who delighted in shedding the blood of the saints should now be forced to drink blood. They refused the Living Water, and now will be given death to drink.
You are righteous, O Lord: Even in the midst of judgment, it is right that the angel says this. Not only is God’s justice fair, it is also pure and appropriate. There is no “vigilante justice” with God.
I heard another from the altar saying: This voice is either an angel speaking from the altar, or the altar personified, representing the corporate testimony of the martyrs (Revelation 6:9) and the prayers of the saints (Revelation 8:3-5).

I'm an old woman with an On-Line Bible and some On-line Commentary. I've been a child of God for over 60 years. I still don't understand. I have been studying from Daniel, the Gospel of John, Johns Letters, and now Revelation. I know that John was Jesus' best human buddy while Jesus was on Earth. I figure Jesus would pick the best Gospel writer of the bunch. Jesus would also make friends with the most honest and trustworthy of the bunch as well.
We've watched as Jesus opened a Sealed Scroll. There were seven seals and Jesus was the only one who had passed all the tests so He could open the Battle Plan.
The verses here are about the first three of seven bowls. These verses are also about the third woe an angel proclaimed. Heavy stuff huh... Like I said, I don't have a clue. Please go read the commentary or go ask a trusted Christian to help you digest this.
OK... so, the first bowl was full of nasty boils. I don't think this is measles, chicken pox or small pox. I bet these nasty boils ooze a slimy puss. I bet these nasty boils are red, burning and itching. I bet calamine lotion is just wasted on these boils. I bet boil-ease only makes it worse.
Check it out... Verse 2 says only the people who decided to follow Satan get the boils. We'll know if the bowls are being poured when some forumites start complaining about itching, burning, sores. Some forumites have stated they are Atheists or Agnostics. Some forumites will undoubtedly take the Mark of the Beast willingly.
And when the second and third bowl are poured, the seas as well as the rivers and streams, will become reddish scum... like dried blood... crusty and thick blood. Talk about shipping problems! Boats won't float; they will be imprisoned in the thick reddish scum... like tissue stuck in dried blood.
Is the angel in the 5th verse standing up for God? Is there a need? Why sure... when humans get boils that will drive them crazy with pain and ooze... They will be miserable and even meaner than before. When their yarn from Turkey [Redheart brand is from Turkey] doesn't arrive on time... they'll be pissed! Combine the craziness from the boils with the inability to snap fingers and get whatever they want, and that's gonna bring on RAGE. I think that's why the angel even bothers to say "Hey you brought this on yourself!"
Three bowls have been poured out in these few verses.
Oh wait.... is the Boil-Ease trapped in a container in the middle of the dried-up sea? Someone should hire a copter to go rescue the Boil-Ease... wait... the earth shape-shifted, there is no fuel for a copter!
I bet the price of Boil-Ease will go through the roof. I bet some will buy stock in Boil-Ease when they read these verses.
