I was always curious to know how much it would cost to get a dog (Lab) trained. I figured the closest one would be the Eastern Shore.

Depends on what style hunting you like. Since we're in a waterfowl heaven, I would assume you're looking at a retriever. (But they can also work a corn or soy field for upland game.)

These folks are pretty much considered to be the absolute best at both breeding and training labs:

Twin Pines is also a great lab kennel:

SusannaLabs breeds some great dogs, but they have no experience in waterfowl training. Plus, you have to ship them through LAX, which is very traumatic for any animal.

Are you a Chessie fan? Longmeadow would be my choice, and they work a lot in the SoMD area.

Just remember that the Chessie is NOT a curly haired Lab, but is very territorial and can be ill-tempered. They were bred to both hunt and protect, so don't expect the wonderfully friendly Lab temperment.

I am a HUGE fan of the German Shorthaired Pointer, as they excel in both upland and moderate weather waterfowl hunting. Don't know any breeders, though. Mainly popular in the northern midwest.

Start with Ponderosa. Few kennels in the world do such a complete job of training both animal and owner.

Thanks tiki for the info. We have a lab about 1 1/2 yrs old. Prob a lil to old to train for hunting. I think the next lab pup we get will have started waterfowl training. Thanks again.
