I found this on Beckys Cork Board... it's a private forum... I think I saw something about this in the Calvert Recorder too...

"The Highway User Revenue Tax is a hot topic in Calvert County this month. It's going to get even hotter now that there are some members on the Board and some members of the other committees who seem to want to turn down the funds that others have tried so hard to garner...

Here's the problem... CRE would need to promise not to put the gates back up [remain a public community] promise to maintain their own roads [just as they try to do now but have limited funds for maintenance of roads] and remain a quasi government [keep some kind of Special Taxing District even if it's only a buck]. In return we will received at least $100,000 and maybe even in excess of $300,000 revenue from the State.

IMO... some people want us to become a municipality so bad that any attempt to better the community is met with negative feedback.

I don't see the problem myself... I can understand them requiring us to keep the gates down [private road issue and all], requiring us to do the STD [after all as we increase the mileage of roads we'll get more HUR income to care for them properly, and maintaining our own roads [the county can't do as well as we do anyway].

So what's your opinion.... do we give up the HUR so that one day maybe someone could put the gates back up????? or do we take the cash????"

Yep I wrote that... and so far it's take the cash

I really don't know why anyone would now be going back over this issue. We discussed this when I was running for Commissioner...

But here it is again... After Ed Harvey did so much footwork on it... it doesn't make sense to question it now...:pete:
