They're making progress, but still hurting. Came across this vid from a 1st hand view and experience of the hurricane. What is worth the watch is his take on prep, stuff prepper channels tell you that you need, vs. what really matters when put to the acid test. Long, but if you have the time, I thought it was worth the watch, especially if you're a prepper.

Buckets - lots of buckets.

I would say the closest we have experienced to this was the ice storm in the 90s - 1994? We were without power for 6 days. Community was important then. We shared generators to keep freezers/refrigerators cold. There was another time in the late 70s early 80s where we lost power for 5+ days in the middle of August because of some severe thunderstorms that rolled through. My grandfather had a whole house pto-driven generator at the time that was run by one of his farm tractors. He needed to keep power on for water for all of the livestock he had. We went there for meals and showers. I would like to think I could survive most natural disasters, other than the food part. We don’t do well at food supplies. Hell I’ve got no bread in the house at the moment for breakfast tomorrow morning.

Great video - thx for sharing.

I've been without power for 7 days on two different occasions, once in NY, once here, both hurricanes. Between those and the lack of certain commodities during Covid, I slowly changed things to be more self-sufficient. Food, hot water, power, all covered. I don't call myself a real prepper, just put a little thought into "next time".
