There is a brown and creme colored husky running down Catalina, blends it right with the snow, hope it doesn't get hit.
If you know whose it is or are the owner it is on Catalina near Chisolm Trail.

When I was driving home Tues night, saw what I thought was a white garbage bag in the road. It was this dog. Had 4 people behind me and fortunately, no one coming in the other direction so I could swerve to avoid him. His was sitting on the side of the road, panting. It looked like the 3rd car back pulled over (as much as was possible)
I would still be crying if I had hit him.... I certainly hope no one else does. Wonder if the owners know or care?

Sorry to report but the owners do know.

I have seen this dog loose many times both in the morning and evenings when making my stable runs. I thought I was going to hit him last week when he was in the road.

The biggest problem I had at the time was the fact that we had just gotten all that snow, the roads were still a mess and if I hadn't had cables I could have been in an accident trying to avoid the dog..

Saddly for me, I would have made that attempt regardless of the ice. Good thing I had cables on that day!

The owners do know, and sadly dont seem to care too much. I have knocked on their door numerous times telling them that the dog was loose, running down the street and even in my yard at times. EVERY time they took their sweet time getting out to get the dog, like who cares. I have called animal control a couple times and they just take the dog and give it back.
It is a very sad situation, and I live very close to the owniers, if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this situation my neighbors and I would love to hear them. We are very afraid we are going to end up hitting it one day.

Anyone looking to adopt a Husky? Sounds like the dog would be better off with someone that cares. I worry about the dog getting hit and know the guilt I would feel if I were the one to hit him~ sounds like you feel the same way.

On the way out this evening the dog was running down catalina again.. There was a small pickup that I thought was trying to go around the dog but it would turn out that he was actually trying to catch the dog..

He (a young man, about late teens early 20's) stopped in the road, and did manage to finally get the dog in the truck and they went on their way....
I was okay with it, at least he got the dog... Problem I have is considering he is not much older than my own son, I wonder if he will turn into one of those adults that hate dogs because a "family pet" has become his reponsibility...

By the way, from my viewpoint there was NO collar which means no tags either... I think next time animal control gets a call they should at least check to ensure this dog has had a rabies vaccine... Which reminds me...

Interesting, the dogs owners are NOT young adults, they are 30ish with only small children, and do not have a small pick up. Maybe the dog has found a new home where she will be taken care of. :yay:

I'd be okay with that.. I guess that explains why the dog snapped at him when he lifted him into the truck! And he didn't do anything differently than I would have done.

Boy = 1 Dog = 0

I sure hope this dog has a better home.. Could it have been one of the neighbors kids getting their dog out of the street for them?

Call. Animal. Control.

Every time you see this dog loose, call them.

Don't worry about AC taking the dog... worry about the dog getting run down in the street, or contracting rabies, etc etc.

Call!

I have done that, Animal Control literally takes the dog right back to the owners house....

This is so ridiculous. WTH is wrong with the owners of this dog? If only I wanted another dog, I'd take a ride down there and give him a home where he's actually kept safe. There are way too many people out there who have no business having pets (or kids, but that's another topic all together )

AC is under the control of the Sheriff. At this point, I would send a nice note to the Sheriff asking why these people are not being fined.

Something like "My neighbor's dog keeps getting loose, and AC responds only to capture and return the dog to them. I am concerned that the problem is not being corrected, and how it might affect the county if the dog bites somebody and the public finds out that AC was aware of a chronic problem and did nothing to prevent it." Or some such. They'll fix it if they figure it'll bite them in the arse if they don't fix it.

Sad to hear.

Guess I got my hopes up a little to quick! I haven't seen the dog once since that day and prior I was at least seeing him in the evenings. Maybe they have changed the time they are turning it loose...

Maybe it will take someone getting into a bad accident avoiding the dog on icy roads.... The fact that the dog has no collar, no tags, ect... should be enough for animal control to confinscate the dog.

Rabies anybody?

Call them everyday if that is what it will take. Maybe animal control will get sick of responding and will finally take the dog. If they do keep responding and returning the dog, call the sheriffs office and say you have called AC 5 times and they have done nothing but return the dog to the owners. Relay your concern about a car accident or afraid of kids being biten.
Of course it is just not your problem it is the whole neighborhood who should be getting involved and making calls also, if they are afraid of it being hit by a car.
But then again I don't know if I myself would call AC, I would probably just try to catch it and then find it a good home. Tough situation!
