Matthew 23:1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.
8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Hypocrites make it really, really, hard to bring in New Believers. When we are met at the door with a warm welcoming smile... it's easy to introduce new people... but when everyone has that "I know more than you and don't you forget it" or "I belong here and don't you question it" or "You're not worthy to be in this place with us holy people" look, it's hard to show them the love and respect Jesus wants us to show.
Hypocrites have such big heads; they overshadow the light!
When I was growing up.... My favorite place to stand was right square in front of the TV. It still is, but that's a different point to be made. Anyway... my mom or my dad would say "you know, your mom wasn't a glass maker", and I would get the hint and move.
There aren't nearly enough good preachers who are always working to do away with hypocrisy and who try to welcome New Believers. But the bought and paid for preachers, priests, rabbis, deacons, church leaders, and teachers are all in it for themselves.... they want to be right there, in front of the alter so all can see them and hear them because they are the smartest guy in the church and it's incumbent, the people all see and hear them. The rich guy has paid them to get a point across and they mean to earn their Ducketts. They are blocking the message of love and respect. The know-it-all hypocrites in the church are blocking the light!
I have known a lot of people who won't go to church or temple or synagogue because "it's just a bunch of hypocrites".
Why do they have to bring their guns to church? Why do they have to wear them on their hips during the service? It's "open carry" out here in Arizona, and they wear their guns on their hips while they sit in the pews! Why?
Hypocrites say they Believe, but they are only trying to be seen.
Hypocrites!
