I Can Now Complain About The Super Bowl

Before today, my only beef with the Super Bowl had been that they should skip the game and hand the Steelers the trophy. But now, I have something that really torques me off. The announcement was made yesterday that Alicia Keys will be singing America The Beautiful during the pre-game festivities.

This is the same Alicia Keys who made comments such as "we had it coming..." after 9/11. The same Alicia Keys who said that Americans flying the flag after 9/11 were all a bunch of fakes, and that there was no patriotism being shown as long as there are poor people in our country... I guess 3,000+ dead and a country coming together to support those of us who were hurt constitutes patriotism. The same Alicia Keys who made all of those anti-American, anti-patriotism, comments is now going to get a big bucket of bucks to come to Jacksonville and sing America The Beautiful.

I would rather they pay Roseanne to come and sing it. Her singing may be horrible, she may have used crude gestures to attack those who were booing her, but at least she's never said the US deserved to be attacked or said we shouldn't fly the flag.

My apologies for the incorrect spelling. Thinking of Ms. Keys's comments reminded me of the comments of the French and I had a mental lapse into French spelling for a second. :patriot:

Wonder why they picked her, she's not the best singer out there. Probably trying to hold on the the MTV generation since they snatched away the half-time show.

I still say that football alienates its core audience (men 16-49) by using MTV-type performers. Aerosmith debased and degraded themselves by sharing a stage with N'Sync and Britney Spears. My ideas for halftime acts would be hip-hop, or country performers like Alan Jackson or Toby Keith, or rock acts like Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park.

I agree. Although I will admit openly that I liked the Aerosmith act, if only because I really like the mixing of genres (like the new Linkin Park/Jay Z remix album).

Well, the Linkin Park/Jay Z pairing made sense from an artistic standpoint. It was following in the tradition of Aerosmith/Run DMC and Anthrax/Public Enemy. Teenybop music has no artistic credibility--it's just a scheme to separate teens and preteens from their money. I though the Ashlee Simpson SNL debacle was proof of that.

Speaking for the over 40 - under 60 demographic group, the largest group in the football market, I'm afraid Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, and others are out of our area of interest. We're in the Eagles, AC/DC, and Boston fan clubs. Okay... maybe there's also a few Abba folks out there too.

Almost all of the pre-game concerts down here are country music. We've got tickets to see Boyz 2 Men, .38 Special, and Huey Lewis and the News. Lynyrd Skynyrd is suppossed to be playing a mini-concert the night before the game but it's a by-invitation only event... and I want an invitation!!!

Here's a suggestion... Let's get Ashley Simpson to "sing". She doesn't even need to be there. They can just pop a CD of her trying to sing, then we'll all booo like they did at the Orange Bowl.

Hey I'm not familiar with this Keys girl. Is she eye candy? It might be worth watching just to see if her tops get ripped off... (just kidding)

BTW: Here we go Steeler's, Here we go!!!!!! Go Pittsburgh...
