I have a typical point and shoot Kodak EasyShare....I dont know anything about shutter speed, exposures, blah blah blah. I just want to know what I can do to get rid of those red dots at the top of this pic.....what causes them, etc.

That's light bouncing around on/in your lens. Solution: don't point directly at the sun. YW.
