For strictly a change of scenery, we drove to (what used to be) Annapolis Mall this morning. Even though the County Council overrode the County Executives mandate of requiring masks, some dothead (sorrry )Health Officer then overrode the County Council, keeping the mask mandate intact.
#1 its a dead mall, #2 the only people not masked were people that refute shots in 'Naptown and "Charm City",,,#3 the metro-sexual high heeled boys still sneer at everyone while shopping at 21 Forever...

Calvert County sure looked better.

I feel like malls are going away in general. The ones we saw all over the country when we were on the road appeared to be mostly dying - empty spaces, nobody walking around shopping, no anchor store. I think they're all transitioning to ....is it Bowie Town Center? Anyway, that open air mall up in Bowie. I see a TON of those dotted around the country and they're always busy. We have one in PCB with shopping - both boutique and chain retail - restaurants, and entertainment.

Just sneakin' around....
Like Tanger Malls. They are doing really well all over, but I feel they really overprice everything. "Upscale" stores.

The "Outdoor Mall" became the new hot lick about 20 years ago. The aim is to recreate the small town ambience of shopping. That will run its course and enclosed malls will be "in" again.

Yes, online shopping has taken some customers but most people still want to touch, see, feel, smell what they're buying.

And this is coming from someone who hasn't Christmas shopped in a store for over a decade.

Outdoor malls suck in January in places where the daytime temperature averages 20F.

The Premium Outlets in Hagarstown are almost dead.

Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo, CA was originally an outdoor mall. It was enclosed in the early 80's. Not sure how it is doing now. Stanford Shopping Center has always been outdoors. All I know about it now is the smash and grab stories I've seen on the news.
