My little baby dog who is one year old has recently started chewing up everything in sight. Today I noticed he has been knawing on my 9 yr old daughter's mattress.:yikes: He has indulged in christmas ornaments, tennis shoes, slippers, & make a brand new barbie a quadrpalegic amputee and destroyed baby alives baby bottle. He is in all the time except to potty, He has numerous chewey toys, etc and is just downright behaving like a little chit. He has also expressed major jealousy in my opinion to our other dog.

When he is bad I give him a time out in the kennel, but once he's out it's right back to chew chew chew.

Do dogs still cut teeth at this age?

My Jack Russels chewed until about 2 years old and then I guess just grew out of it. You might just be in for a long year.

I think the dog misses Doug.

He chewed everything in sight for about six months. He could anialate a pig ear in 15 minutes flat. It would be different if I could catch him in the act. Most of the time I find the aftermath though.:lmao: I only hope this doesn't last another year.

That's all I ever found. I just made sure I kept everything out of reach. I came home once an found half a hockey puck. He stopped drinking alchohol after getting into a bunch of tequila filled chocolates.

He's probably bored and has found something exciting to do, and a way to get your attention.

I told the kids that but how do you keep your mattress out of reach :killingme. I know I know pick it up off the floor.:lmao: I swear to gawd it's at least two feet off the ground. My little dog is quite a jumper too.

Other than quitting my job I don't know how much more attention he could get. Play outside, toys, cuddle time in the chair, sleeps in the bed, treats every night. Makes me wish I was a dog. I know the sweater he has isn't the most fashionable, but heck it keeps him warm. I even bought him a dog bed and he ate it.:killingme

Mine eats dog beds too, but his are considerably larger than a chihuahua's. When my pup gets in a gnawing mood, we take away what he's chewing on, replace it with something he can chew on, and repeat as necessary. He used to be a shoe chewer, but now he doesn't even look at them. Distracting him works too. If he's chewing something in the living room, I take it away and have him follow me into the kitchen. By the time we get there he seems to have forgotten what was going on and is fine. :lmao: I try not to leave him alone in a room for very long, because he gets bored easily and finds things to do. :ohwell:

Leave the pup in his crate while you're gone. Get a good bone, such as a nylabone, for him to chew in the crate. You can even try a Kong with peanutbutter inside it. When you're home, don't let him out of your sight. Do as Nickel said...when you see him chewing something he's not supposed to, replace it with one of his own bones. Treat him like a puppy...don't let him out of your sight..
