I will be leaving here in the next month or so to head back to MD and its a 10hr drive from point a to point b and have 2 cats. I talked to my vet and they said they don't think they can give my 5yr old cat sedation meds due to him having a heart murmur do you have any suggestions of how I can keep him comfortable and not crying the whole trip as he hates the catcarrier and he hates being in the car. The 5min trip to the vet from my house he cries the whole trip.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.

We move frequently with our animals (Navy). I usually take them along for car rides in the weeks preceeding a long trip to get them used to being in the car. Start with short trips and gradually increase time in the car. That will help.

Thanks I will see if my aunt who drives is willing to do something like that I bet she will tell me like she always does just listen to the cat cry big deal. Well it is a big deal it could kill him because hes got heart problems and I want him to live another 15yrs if he is able to that is.

check with your vet about giving your cat rescue remedy. it's a natural sedative that can be given to cats.

I have used 'Rescue Remedy' as well, and it worked wonderfully!!! It is natural, safe, and available online too.

I work for a vet and just 2 weeks ago we put a dog with a murmur under for a dental. He was fine. Get a second opinion.

I called my old vet back in MD and they faxed over what they gave him when we moved here and hopefully I will be able to get the vet to give me the same thing again as it lasted about 4.5hrs of the 10hr trip and I sedated him again then so he would last the rest of the trip and he did. I am going to call the vet at the beginning of April and see if they will give me the meds then since I will be leaving at the end of the month to come back to MD. If I can't get my vet to give me sedation meds here I might call my vet back in MD and see if they will mail me a script if I give them my credit card number over the phone.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions adn so forth. I have taken all of them and stored them in my brain for when the time gets closer as 6 weeks is too far away to start planning now for.
