In Southern Maryland all of my many years.....I have never seen one of these and I don't know what it is....My son caught it crawling across my garage floor this afternoon....It is about 2 1/2" long....Looks just like a baby lobster....Can anyone help me to identify it?

Sounds like a crawfish.

Live near a stream or some running water? They don't live long out of water.

If you see mounds of dirt poking up around the drainage ditches near your place then you have crawdads! They come up in my yard all the time when it rains. They also make great pets if you put them in a fish tank and feed them things like algae discs.

If you have enough of them, you can boil em up with some old bay and chow down. They also make great live fish bait if you want to catch a lunker bass.

Spent some time in Louisiana, have you? That's what they do down there.

OK, that's what I kinda thought.....I have seen those little volcano things around....So they are Crawdads huh? How do you know they aren't Crawmoms? What is the difference between Crawfish and Crawdads?

Same thing,different name. Just depends on where you're from. Both names get used interchangeably around here.
