My baby boy his first laptop! :yahoo:

He is a straight A student and I feel he really deserves this. He's only 9 so I didn't go all out, I just got a refurb (thanks GWguy! :huggy:) but it's a Dell 1525 and it will make a nice starter laptop.

I am completely psyched cause he knows nothing about it and I am just going to hand it to him and let him open it.

Sorry, just had to share.

purchase NetNanny if he's gonna' be on the internet, it's worth every penny !

Actually I have Verizon's internet security suite and it has parental control built into it. It works really well, sometimes too well.

Pretty impressive present for a child that age. I can image his look of joy!

Be happy, I'm sure this memory will stay with him forever.

I want to get my 10 year old a computer. My desk top mysteriously stopped working but it was cheap and lived a long life. I don't want her to use my laptop cause it makes me nervous that she might break it. All of her school assignments have needed to be typed for school and I'm sure that will be every assignment in the future. I went to Best Buy a few weeks ago and asked them about getting a $400 computer and the guy said it was a waste of money and my daughter wouldn't be able to do anything with it.

I don't know anything about computers but I do know I don't want to buy her a $1000 computer. My husband mentioned getting the PS3 cause she could play games and also use it as a computer.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to get a 10 year old

DO NOT BUY a big ticket item from Best Buy! They have fine print that will eat you alive if something goes wrong with that computer! I saw a few cheap computers in the electronics section of the classifieds, but they are not worth what's being asked. I ended up spending 650.00 on this one but I also purchased Office for Home and students. That is not bad for the computer I got. I called Dell Outlet and they had a really good deal on one that they didn't have listed yet. If you get one, make sure it has at least 2 GB of RAM so it will properly run Vista.

Good Luck!
