There's a water main break about a half mile from my house so water's down in the area. That sucks, but the guys who've already been working all day are all hands on deck trying to get it fixed. I don't need politicians or celebrities, but I need these guys.

I feel like we don't appreciate and value the people who impact our lives the most and it ticks me off that these guys are probably in the, what? $60k vicinity? while unnecessary dipshits are bazillionaires.

The trash guys are important to me. Electric workers. Water guys. Farmers. The people who stock the shelves at Publix. HVAC repair people. Those are the ones I appreciate, not some freaking hedge fund manager.

The guys like the hedge fund managers do have an effect on your retirement, but I know what you mean.

Some of my best friends are cable guys, electricians, general contractors, and elevator repair guys.

While I'm an engineer and absolutely love engineering, in general I dislike engineers.

Everyone dislikes engineers. They're the people who design engines with drain plugs that require removing several pieces to access. And don't get me started on the EE type.

... Or unbolt the motor from the motormounts and transmission so you can move the engine forward just enough to change the two rear spark plugs.

or have to unbolt the front motor mounts to replace the serpentine belt. I feel myself being triggered just thinking about engineers.

I don't dislike engineers; they have good problem solving skills and know how things work. BUT they think a certain way - like software designers - so you just buddy them with an end user and make a team.

Oh NOOOOO and Engiqueer! 😂

Seriously, if the understand the desired "End Result" of their design and are flexible to adapt to "Real World" usage they're G2G.

As some who worked various Blue Collar Trades and then IT for 20 + yrs fixing computers

Designers, Engineers, Architects should all have to work in the field for 2 yrs before getting certified implementing or repairing whatever they may design in the future .... cars, trucks, boats, computers ....

some of the best designed computers ever was the Macintosh 8600 / 9700 .. followed buy the B&W and Graphite models - you pulled a latch and the entire side folds down with the mother board right there on the door

That's part of my job is to bring that end user POV to as many aspects of the design process as much as possible. A panel that needs opened once or more times a day needs to have finger actuated latches and hinges, not screws, for instance.

Don't place that panel on top of something that get mounted 7 feet in the air.

"Why not, just tell them to use a ladder"

A. We don't keep a ladder on the aircraft.
B. That ladder weighs 38lbs and some aircraft are parked 1/4 mile away from the hangar.
c. This is the Navy, we dont have 5 golf carts for the maint folks to drive things out to the aircraft. :)

As a retired Union Elevator Man, I can honestly say that every elevator man or woman I worked with or met, was a dickweed...

These things only happen because we're forced to work within the physical constraints imposed by artsy-fartsy designers.
