Ok I have a 5 1/2 mth pit he will be 6 mth 1/7/05. He will not tell me when he needs to go out side. What can I do to teach him to tell me when he needs to go? I do not want him to go in my house. I have a year old pit and I got her at the age and she was no problem house training. I am to the end of my rope with this dog not being house trained yet? Can someone please help me? :bawl:

Are you crating him or at least confining the dog to a small area? Do you have him on a schedule as far as feeding and taking him out regularly?

He is carat trained and as soon as I get him out he just can't hold it until I get the door open we keep him next to the door because of this reason and I only feed them in the afternoon. They have no water laying around so he can drink all day. I take him out every 30 min. I am just scared that he will go in the house and if I think he is doing good I will wait to see if he tells me. He will go in the house. The bad part is he knows when he does it it is bad. Like this morning at 5:00 in the morning He went all over my bed room. He has never got up that early to go to the bathroom. SO at 5 this morning I was steam cleaning my room.

If he cannot control himself, perhaps he has a bladder infection or UTI.

How did he "go" all over your bedroom if he's in a crate? Something doesn't sound quite right. Do you take him (on a leash) from the crate to go outside. Almost sounds as if he's spending too much time in the crate or something. You really should be feeding him more than once a day. Divide between two meals at his age and it's better for dogs to eat that way in general. He could be drinking way too much water at one time if he doesn't have access to it during the day and then can't hold it.

I realize I only have a small bit of info, but it just sounds like you need to do things differently.

That is what I was thinking, I just took him out to go and he went and right before we got back in he went again but just a little came out. So maybe I need to take him to the vet this week. But RR do you think he is at the age were he should be able to make it to the door? All I have to do is open the door open his cage and he is right out side he just can't make it.

Well he is only in the crate when we are not home. he has his a bed in our room when it is time to go to bed. The reason we only feed him once is because he will eat all day even if he is not hungry he eats his food and then he will eat the other dogs food. He is about 50lbs and is only 5 1/2mth old. SOme days he is good about not going in the house but he just has bad days but I just need to find what to do to make him not have any bad days.

Not sure what to tell you. A typical day for Biscuit when we are working...he gets up at 5 a.m. and has his breakfast then we go out for a walk. He's out of the crate for about an hour. Then he goes in the crate while we are at work but my son gets home anywhere from 2-4 and he goes out for a walk and then stays out of the crate. He eats dinner around 4:30 and goes out again. I take him out for a walk when I get home 6-6:30 and he goes out again around 9-10 and then he goes to bed in his crate. He doesn't really signal when he needs to go out, he will come and bark at me occasionally but not all of the time.

I really think you need to change your feeding schedule. Puppies need to eat more than once a day. Biscuit gets 4 cups a day divided into two feedings. Maybe you need to change the quality of food you are feeding...that can help.
