I am sitting there on my laptop at my desk, out of no where while checking my e-mail my hard drive starts to click...my computer shuts down, my hard drive is dead. AND because my warranty is up DELL wants to charge me $40 for a phone call! **** DELL! it was only 2 years old :(

*end rant*

so anyways, I'm going to buy a new desktop computer tomorrow at least with those I can change the parts out myself.

Any suggestions?

Good and bad of towers you own?

You can usually change the hard drives in laptops

yeah i know, but they are just too touchy for my liking, its easy to change out the hard drive, but my most recent back up doesnt have the important information that i need, as it was accrued over the last month and didn't get around to backing it up...

so the laptop is just a useless box...plus, desktops are just more fun for me...all is well.

It's not the laptop you dimwitted piece of crap. It's the hard drive. First of all, the "TravelStar" hard drives suck. Period. End of story.

Buy a Toshiba 3.5" hard drive and you can get an external 3.5" hard drive enclosure for $10.

I have a DELL laptop and it works great.

Oh, and if you didn't back up your data - that's your own fault. You seem like a smart person - you should know better.

What model laptop is it. I can always use spare DELL parts myself (including screens).

PM me about the laptop.

I'm still confused on why you say laptop hard drives are too touchy.

I've replaced 2.5" hard drives more times than you can count.

I have a Dell and a Gateway. The only problem I've had with my dell is that the keyboard has keys popping off of it :ohwell: The gateway was brand new and the motherboard died :dead: it was a real pain in the popper to get that straightened out.

I bowl overhand
Hard drives have a lot of moving parts, and with anything with moving parts, it's going to break.. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next year, but sooner or later it's going to break.

AND if the average lifespan is (for example) 10,000 hours. you may be the lucky SOB that gets the one that lasts 100,000 hours, OR you might be the unlucky SOB that gets one that lasts 10..

I have to Dell Laptops and a Dell Desktop, I haven't had really any major problems with mine. I was smart enough to buy the 4 yr. warranty though. I also got the accidental breakage coverage because I'm a clutz! :lmao: I agree with itsbob it all depends on the luck of the draw sometimes! :howdy:

I just hate Dell's customer support.

yeah no kidding, after the HD took a crap, I attempted to start up a few times just to be sure thats what it was, then I go a dell screen saying i needed to contact dell to get a password to get access to MY data...they wanted to charge me $40 for that...um thanks but no thanks, i can re-rip all of my music.
