... ok, the person you know who got $1000 back and gets food stamps, doesn't pay rent, and has family care for the kids obviously abused the system.

Maybe 10% do that, if we're guessing on the high side.

90% use it to offset rent, childcare, and gas while they go to school.
I did not even factor all of that in. It's too late for a retraction of my statement. But, I'll apologize to those who do use the excess funds for related expenses!

Socki, if you do end up getting student loans, try not to get much more than you'll actually need. You might think the extra money is nice, but it's not nice to pay back. :dead:
If I can't get a grant, I can't go. I will have to wait until the Spring semester when I can get tuition reimbursement through work.

Everyone will qualify for at least the unsubsidized loan, which first years can take out up to $3500 (I think). That means it accrues interest, but you don't have to make payments until after you graduate or stop going to school.

Pell Grants are ideal because it's free money. Subsidized loans are better because the government pays the interest while you're in school.

I have enough expenses to worry about. I am going to be adding a car loan soon. So, it's either a grant or I wait until I can get tuition reimbursement here. I'll have to pay for the classes up front and that'll hurt me enough.

Well good luck either way! It's hard... sometimes amazingly mentally draining... but there is a sense of accomplishment when you look back at how hard you've worked, while still maintaining the rest of your life.

P.S. I have lots of books that I've not sold back which I'd be willing to part with at little to no cost, provided there was a need for them and it was going to someone I know was willing to work as hard as I have.

It cannot be anymore mentally draining than my life it currently. I'll let you know what books I'm needing when the time comes. Thanks.

I have a few books, too. Some are basic, others are more technical focused which might not do you any good. It wouldn't hurt to ask though, when you are ready. :yay:

It does when your family watches your kids, you're on food stamps, AND you don't pay rent.

But, I should not have even posted about this. I never looked at it as paying for gas and childcare.
Wow then if the state is paying for the childcare and the rent, on foodstamps then it sounds to me she didn't use the *leftover* money for childcare. People like her are the ones who do make it harder on tax paying people. BUT........ if you know all of that to be true (her keeping the leftovermoney) then maybe you should report her to DSS after all you MUST inform them of ANY MONEY coming into the home! sounds like welfare fraud to me.After all YOU are paying her bills along with all of us tax paying people.

Do they have a minivan? I haven't seen one. I looked at the Kia Sedona but wasn't impressed with the look of it.
Hyundai has SUV's of all shapes and sizes, and I believe they have a mini van. too..

They are all the same, but I would bet an SUV has more cargo space.. they're all Soccer Mom cars, you aren't going to do an equatorial expedition in any of them.

I need the 3rd row seating. I like the fold down rear seats. Any SUV that offers a 3rd row seat is a gas hog. Plus, I have yet to see an SUV that's seats fold down like minivans.
