Last night on the news they stated that MD Er's ranked 10th in the nation, DC came in 4th place and VA came in 46th.

I found that info very interesting:lol:

That is all.

Do you mean it looked like Ellis Island because there were so many nationalities there or just because people were wandering around looking lost?

It had nothing to do with nationalities...
The weird lady who lives down the road was at the front desk. She was staring at me..She has alot of cats. The whole view from the front door was kinda creepy...
The place was so full, and if anyone knows how long the wait is at SMH, it's me.. I've been forgotten in the hallway in the past. I have waited 6 hours to see a doctor when I could hardly breathe and was in so much pain I was vomitting profusely.
When they forgot me.... My roommate took me to Calvert.. I was out in about an hour.
I'm not a jackarse when it comes to being sick and going to the ER. I know they do it based on the severity of the patient. Kids and people who come in by ambulance should come first.. But when I've been there for the same thing before and I'm puking all over the place, I think that's pretty darn bad.
One doctor in the ER isn't enough.
I think the place was so crowded because of the flu that going around.. My mother and my kids were with me.. So I decided to tough it out with my regular meds at home.. I finally cried myself to sleep about 5 hours later.

I had thought they were moving them a little quicker since they divided ER into 2 groups - those severe enough for possible admittance, and those that'll get a scrip and be sent on their way.
It's once you get out of the waiting room that takes forever. Then again, I guess 99% of my recent experiences have been during the day or the middle of the night.
I hope you're feeling better.

staring into the abyss
The last time I was at Calvert's ER (not for me, and we arrived by ambulance) it was 11:30 on a Friday night. There were 3 or 4 people with the flu, two drunks who decided to check their car's off-road capabilities, a guy bleeding from his , a suicide watch, some old drunk guy who seemed to be on a first name basis with everybody on staff and someone so large that they couldn't put them in an upstairs room because nobody could find keys to the freight elevator. The bleeding guy was drunk and unruly, failed suicide was screaming and the old dude kept insisting that he needed to be there after they told him to get out.

Six.... hours...

Unfortunately, we were a "wait and see" case, where they wouldn't release or admit until things got significantly better or worse, so I got to enjoy the whole horrid spectacle.

I wonder why people with the flu (and other basic illnesses and injuries) aren't using Express Care? It's only a few miles up the road from SMH and you can get in and out really quickly. It's affiliated with SMH (same physicians practice at both places) and we've gotten great care there. I'd leave the ER to the seriously ill and head to the Charlotte Hall office any day if I can't get in to see my regular doc.

I think the Express Care operation at the hospital is only limited hours (5pm-10pm.) But I agree - flu and non-critical should use this when available.

Is Breton Medical in San Souci a 24 hour operation??

She's talking about the building up by Arby's on Golden Beach Rd. That is also express care.

I know that. But since the Beerwench went to Leonardtown, Golden Beach is another 25 minutes up the road.

The one in Charlotte Hall is only open after 4 or 5 pm. :ohwell:

I sometimes hit Breton Medical Urgentcare in San Souci. They open at 7am but I'm not sure when they close, 10 or 11.

Anyhow, depending on the time, some folks may have no option but ER.

Express Care

Hours for Express Care (SMH's urgent care located off Golden Beach Rd.)

Weekends & Holidays: 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Weekdays: 4 to 10 p.m.

301-290-1499, but no appt. necessary

Great for avoiding the longer waits at the ER. :yay: My general rule of thumb is that if I can avoid subjecting myself to that I do. (Plus, I figure that if I've just got a flu bug, it can probably wait until this place opens to head over there.)

I think I was at the ER about 9 :30..
I have to go to the ER, If I'm going to bother seeing a doctor when I get really bad.. I'm going to go all out and get the IV drugs. That way I stop immediately and can just sleep it off.
Too bad they haven't been able to find a prescription that works for me:ohwell:
