Here is a good reason for me not to buy that Chevy I was thinking of.......

GM Chief to Get $1.7 Million Pay

General Motors Co. Chief Executive Ed Whitacre will receive a pay package valued at $9 million to help turn around the government-owned auto maker, according to a regulatory filing.

Mr. Whitacre, according to the filing, will receive a $1.7 million base salary this year. The rest of his compensation is comprised of $5.3 million in stock available to him beginning in 2012 and restricted stock units valued currently at $2 million.

They're not government owned.

So does this make Mr. Whitacre the highest paid civil servant in the history of America?

I own 2 Fords now and would more than likely buy another. Remember, Ford did not ask for or take government(our) money.

Well hopefully if they pay 1.7 million to the guy he is worth it. If you have a $100k CEO you get $100k CEO performance. The only reason someone worth that money would take a low paid position as many people think they should is for an ego boost, "Hey look at me, I turned around a real turd of a company and only for $100k a year"

I say let companies pay CEO's what they want but they have to perform. Seriously whats worse paying a CEO a comparable salary to other companies or paying 100,000 union employees to sit on their asses while the plant is shut down. I know for a fact the Toyota, Kia, Hundai, BMW plants in the US that aren't part of the UAW don't do this.

Hopefully that is only temporary, if not I think the workers should get the government health care plans instead of those sweet ones they get.

The CEO stuff is just attention grabbing, really what difference is 2 million dollars going to make to GM?

I always bought ford , and no , they did not need to take the government's help .... They simply refused to honor warranties from defective alluminum cyllinder heads { spark plugs popping out } , thousands of FORD loyalists that have been let down .

It will be a Ford product for me. I will not purchase a GM or Chrysler vehicle because of the buyout.
