I Would Like the State to Help Me Recruit Employees

I just received a letter from the Maryland Department of Transportation. Because I have a CDL license, they are letting me know that school districts and their contractors are in need of school bus drivers and that I may be qualified. Most busses here in SMC are owned and operated by contractors, which means MDOT is advertising free of charge for them to recruit drivers. Do you think this is fair? I don't because they have not offered to advertise freely for me.

On this same subject, did anyone see what the Calvert bus drivers are asking for? $35 per hour! 8 hours per day guaranteed along with a high yielding 401k program. And other stuff. These drivers just need to be satisfied with their $20/hr and get their a$$e$ back to work IMO.

And a little different subject - did you see what the state police are now offering new hires? Starting pay going from $35k/yr to over $50k/yr. Plus a larger signing bonus. That is a HUUUUGE jump in starting salary! Will I be getting a letter soon from the FBI letting me know I may be qualified to be a police officer because I was approved for a handgun 5 years ago?

LET'S GO BRANDON!

They would be happy to help with employees, you just need to drive the bus bringing them in from Landover.

That is a huge jump. But if you had told me that starting pay for an officer was $35k I wouldn't have believed you, that's quite low. Indeed.com says the average starting entry level for a police officer (country wide) is $57k, and we live in some of the highest earning counties in the country (your NYC/SF/HI notwithstanding).

I was going to post about this. My husband is qualified and got the letter too! He said no way, he already works with a bunch of children, but at least he's telling them where to go, not stuck driving them there himself.
And yes, I thought it odd that MDOT was sending the letters.

Since I drove a school bus while in high school over 40 years ago, should I expect a hire offer in my mailbox when I get home? Might have to accept; $20/hour now means 1 day driving would earn a month's net pay from '77!
