So, even if, and that if is about 10 stories tall you get them to agree she shoulda maybe sort just COMPLIED WITH THE FRIKEN LAWFUL COMMAND TO STOP HER VEHICLE, they will tell you she panicked because she was terrified of being sent to a Guatemalan rape prison. Or she didn't know who these masked men were, they were maybe gangbangers trying to carjack her.

The excuses are endless.
I agree with that. I see similarities between that and Ashley Babbit kinda what another poster said FAFO. I also don't understand why in either case though they didn't aim to maim instead of kill isn't that what law enforcement is supposed to be trained to do? Heat of the moment all the way around.

Law-enforcement is not trained to use deadly force to maim.
Why deadly force? I can see why in some cases but why not maim instead of kill in both of these cases. Maiming would have stopped Babbit. I'm not sure about the Minneapolis case I've never been shot. Wouldn't you have even less control of your vehicle if you are shot?

Because she was employing deadly force with the vehicle.

Deadly forces met with deadly force.

If she didn’t wanna die, she should just comply.

I can see that but shooting her in the head...will that immediately stop the weapon she was using?

Again, this is a direct threat versus a direct threat.

The officer is not sitting there doing geometry and trigonometry in his head, or evaluating the psychological benefit of nicking her in the ear, they are responding to a direct threat to life and limb.

There is no such weapons handling tactic as "aim to maim" or anything resembling that. You aim at the threat and you shoot until the threat is ended/stopped/over. Many people survive multiple gunshots and others succumb completely to one.
In the case under discussion, her head and maybe some portion of her upper torso were all the target the ICE agent had to aim at, and in only a split second too.

Maybe I just don't understand shooting at all in this particular situation Gilligan - just seems like there were better ways to handle it BUT I'm going to stop right here turn off the f*****g news regarding and take my 9 o'clock nap. Tom Horman said let the investigation play out. Probably good advice. Happy New Year my friend wishing you a good one.

I have a different take on it.

#1, she won't do it again.
#2, it sends a message to the rest of the rabid humans and perhaps they'll think twice - if their brains even allow that anymore.

I have no sympathy for the dead woman because she did that to herself, deliberately inserted herself into a volatile situation and made an attack on a law enforcement officer. Classic FAFO.

So, there are a few factors. As noted above, there is literally no way its possible to reliably "shoot to maim". Torso shots are randomly deadly or no, which is why they are trained to shoot multiple shots center of mass, which is not only where most of the important bits are in the human body. Of course one head shot will do it but anyone who has shot, let alone shot under stress will tell you hitting a human head is not easy.

Now, did he have to shoot at all? Even if you posit the threat to him was over, you have to consider this. This woman, when directed to stop and exit the vehicle, had put it into motion. Maybe to flee the scene, maybe to bang a u-turn and come back at them. Its you, and people you love like family at risk. What do you choose? To let her drive off in a 4,000lb weapon?

People on the internet want to ascribe motives and feelings and state things like she was just trying to get home, you could have followed and arrested her there. Maybe she was going to get clear and resume the speed limit..... Maybe she was going to continue in a panic and crash into who knows what.

Why was this woman there to begin with .? Her mother said she was always helping out neighbors. Someone posted she was driving a vehicle with Missouri plates. Her partner wife was filming with her phone. She was told to leave several times but kept blocking ICE vehicles. They tried to get her out of the truck.

She put herself in the situation.
