My son had a fever Monday(low grade), and yesterday (up to 101.5), and this a.m. woke up with 100.9....only other symptom was a runny nose??? Anyone else?

Not yet, but with the rest of the daycare kids back in school I expect it to start soon.

Could be an ear infection. Sometimes with those runny noses the whole works get gummed up.

Sure is.... he had a temp of 102.2 while on motrin this a.m. and we took a trip to the pediatrician. Back home snoozing now while on his meds. One thing that the dr. did say that was odd to me was to expect the fever to last 3 days?? I thought the antibiotics kicked in after 24 hours?

Probably depends on the severity of the ear infection. The last one my munchkin had was a doozy (we went to the ER because his temp was 104) and it stayed elevated for several days after antibiotics were started. It came DOWN, but was still above normal.

Usually they aren't so bad. His fever is typically gone within a day of getting started on antibiotics. That one was the only really scary/protracted one we've had.

Yeah, we've had a few, like 4 or 5 now and every time the fever had gone after 24 hours on the meds. His pediatrician wasn't the one examining him and this lady was sort of rushing so you never think to ask why, when they clearly didn't seem like they had the time to ask "do you have any questions". Not that she's a bad pediatrician, but, take some time...ya know?

Sometimes, you won't see much of a difference in just a 24 hour period with the medication. It takes time for it to kill the bugs. It is best to let the body do it's own work, to build up the Immunity, unless the Doctor puts them on it. Sometimes, the Doc will throw an RX at you because they think that's what you want. Our prescribing antibiotics is opening a doorway to new, and more fierce ailments. Unless your Doc tells you otherwise..don't fill the RX unless you see that the Child isn't getting any better on their own in a few days. Chances are that they will get better on their own anyway. Treat the Signs, and symptoms with Motrin, or Tylenol, but put the Antibiotics on the back burner for a day, or two. JMO..I'm NOT a Doctor.

Oh I'm so sorry. Is it an ear infection? even with the tubes? or just a nasty viral stomach virus?:huggy:

No ear infection :) I took him in to be sure. His ears are perfect :yahoo: Just a virus going around. Runny nose cough and low grade fever. Just have to wait for it to pass. As soon as they are better they are getting the flu shot!!!!!!! oldest brings home germs from other kids from school and youngest ends up getting sick.

School is back in session and our little darlings are busy sharing their germs. At my school, a few little kindergartners are down with a virus and one of the teachers wasn't looking so hot on Friday. Several of us are working through colds. It's just the normal lots of kids together sharing germs type stuff.

Keep on them to wash hands, cough/sneeze into the elbow, use kleenex when they need it, and KEEP THEM HOME IF THEY'RE SICK!!!!! (We would ALL be in so much better shape if most parents did this instead of just a few. A sick child is more important than a job -- take a sick day! If you can't, find a reliable back-up for day care that will take a sick child & care for them.)

Not personally directed at anyone, just a long-standing rant of mine. :)

Let's not forget the Head Lice that the Little Darlings share!!
Some Vitamins that support Immune Health for Adults: Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin E. I know there are more out there, just can't think of them right now.

I wasn't going to mention that one. Just hearing or seeing the words invokes an immediate urge to scratch the head. :cds:

Remind the babies not to share hats, combs, brushes, or jackets. If you see them scratching the head, check them. I think I've been through this at least once with all of my own kids. Funny, never knew what they were until I moved down here. Climate must be good to them here!

Ugh. We've been felled by strep throat over here. For some reason this feels much worse at 7+ months pregnant. Child is still cheerful and energetic. Maybe it's because every time I start to fall asleep Chuck Norris Jr starts kicking the crap out of me.

Doesn't sound like you or pelers are having a good time with sick kids and you both being sick too...I myself have been coughing for 3 weeks now and the doctor can't seem to figure out why...its the kind that scares people away its either loose or i sound like a sick seal. on my 2nd round of antibiotics as i got infection somewhere coming out with my coughing.

Not directed at you, but if the teachers expect the parents to keep the kids home when they are sick, shouldn't the parents expect the teacher to stay home when they are sick? It bothers me to go to school and see sick teachers walking around just as much as it does to see the sick kids stupid parents send to school.

I keep my kid home when she's sick.

I took my two boys along with two of their friends to the CMM last year and their friends both ended up getting lice from sailor hats. I called CMM about it so hopefully they threw them out or at least washed them real well.
